If you are diagnosed with Chlamydia, you can get rid of it really easily with the right treatment. If you take a Chlamydia test and the result shows that you have it, we will phone or text you to make an appointment for you at a clinic that you choose.
The treatment is usually very simple, so you won't need to go back to the clinic if you have taken your treatment as instructed.
However, you should return for a repeat test if:
- You think you have come into contact with Chlamydia again.
- You had unprotected sex with your partner within 7 days of taking the Chlamydia treatment.
- You didn't finish taking your treatment or didn't take it according to the instructions.
- The signs and symptoms don’t go away.
You should also get tested again if your original test was negative, but you then develop symptoms of Chlamydia.

Anything else I should know?
Chlamydia is spread through unprotected sex (not using a condom). So if your test shows that you have Chlamydia, it is really important that you let your sexual partners know that you have it, as they may have it too. This includes your current sexual partner and any recent partners – they should all get tested and treated.
The staff at the clinic can talk to you about which of your sexual partners may need to be tested. They'll also help to make this as easy as possible for you.
To make sure that you don't reinfect each other, you must not have any sex (oral, vaginal or anal) or share sex toys with your partner(s) until 7 days after you have both completed your treatment.
What's the treatment process?
At the clinic you will be given a course of treatment for Chlamydia, which is usually a simple course of antibiotics – in most cases 4 tablets taken together just once.
If you have any symptoms, then you should notice that they get better quite quickly. However, if your symptoms don’t improve, you should contact a clinic or phone THT Direct on 0845 1221 200. This includes any pelvic pain that doesn't improve or any pain when having sex.
